The perfect romantic one bedroom cottage in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. This former primary school which is now a grade two listed building has been lovingly restored to provide self catering accommodation in the picturesque village of Maentwrog.
This romantic one bedroom cottage definitely has the wow factor. Oak flooring and the high, king truss, vaulted ceilings creates an immediate impression of style and luxury. The feeling is further enforced as you start to notice the finer finishing touches of the cottage. Everything from the impressive log burner and sumptuous leather sofas right down to the brushed stainless steel light switches and slate coasters have been carefully chosen and sourced.
..finer finishing touches..
The two soft leather sofas naturally face onto a real log fire in the lounge. The fire is framed in turn by the original granite gable wall. A flat screed digital TV is mounted discreetly on the wall to the left and under-floor heating gently warmes your toes.
On the other side of the room an oak fitted kitchen adds yet more luxury to the space. High spec appliances like the integrated dishwasher, induction hob and oven are complimented by expensive extras such as granite worktops and Belfast sink. Subtle mood lighting ensuring the romantic feel continues.

Once you’ve lovingly prepared a meal for your partner a sweet little table for two provides the perfect setting to enjoy it. Look out through the hand made sash window onto the River Dwyryd as it winds its way down the valley towards the beaches of Harlech. Discuss your plans for the following day and try not to argue over who does the washing up!
In the bedroom, a king sized double bed with Egyptian cotton sheets is flanked by elegant bedside tables and matching lamps. Carefully chosen cushions and gorgeous curtains finish off the room beautifully.

Finally the bathroom. This room is possibly even more lavish than the rest of the cottage. The under floor heating continues into this beautifully tilled wet room. Guests can invigorate themselves with a powerful ceiling shower or choose the more relaxed option of a soak in the jacuzzi bath. A lovely oval shaped washbasin is fed crystal clear welsh water by a top of the range open-ended mixer tap.
This romantic one bedroomed cottage is located in Maentwrog, a small picturesque village on the banks of the River Dwyryd in Snowdonia.
The village was mostly built by the influential Oakley family who gained their wealth from mining slate in nearby Blaenau Ffestiniog. Slate from this area is said to have roofed the world. Its journey starting on the narrow gauge railway that ran from Tan Y Bwlch nearby to the awaiting ships in Porthmadog. The steam train that continues to run along this Ffestiniog Railway line only carries tourists now. But its meandering route through un-spoilt countryside along the banks of the Dwyryd River makes it a must for all guests to the area.
Maentwrog, or Twrog’s stone is said to have derived its name when the giant Twrog hurled a huge bolder from a nearby hill into the village destroying a pagan alter. The stone still stands in the church courtyard, the giants thumb and finger prints visible on its surface.
As well as giant imprinted rocks, the village has two nice pubs, both serving food. There are many beautiful walks accessible directly from the cottage but guests can also be climbing the slopes of Snowdon itself within a 30 minute drive. White water rafting can be enjoyed on the internationally renowned Tryweryn River and the down hill mountain biking centre in Bleunau is also fast establishing international credentials. Porthmadog, a popular shopping destination is a 10 minute drive away, as is the historic town of Harlech with its world renowned golf course, beaches and historic castle.
